Dates maamoul is one of the most popular and desired traditional sweets in the Middle East, especially in the Levant and the Arab Gulf countries. This dessert is distinguished by its attractive shape, delicious taste, and high nutritional value.
Date maamoul is usually prepared from basic ingredients such as flour, ghee or butter, sugar and dates. The flour is mixed with ghee, sugar and a little water to form a cohesive and easy-to-form dough. While the dates are mashed until they become soft and can be shaped easily, and some flavorings such as cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla are added to them, then they are formed in different shapes using wood or plastic molds designated for this purpose.
After completing the formation of the maamoul, it is baked in a preheated oven at a moderate temperature until golden.
Dates maamoul can be served hot or cold, and it is preferable to have it with tea or Arabic coffee. In addition, the maamoul can be decorated with sesame, chopped almonds, or walnuts, as desired.
Date maamoul is not only delicious but also contains health benefits due to its high date content, which is rich in dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron. It also contains antioxidants that help maintain a healthy heart, digestive system, and immune system.
Although date maamoul has health benefits, it should be eaten in moderate amounts due to its high content of sugars and fats.
